ABOUT ANDREJ, THE DESIGNER OF CODE8

ANDREJ justin

designer

The designer of our ships, Andrej Justin, was born in Koper, Slovenia, on the Adriatic coast. He studied electronics and civil engineering in Ljubljana – Slovenia and architecture in Graz – Austria. He graduated in Yacht Design at Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology in 1993.

Andrej’s life has been defined by the sea and yachts since the beginning. He designed his first boat for the Slovenian shipbuilding company ELAN.

He has created several racing boats from the 33-foot match race one design JustinTen to the 80-foot carbon, canting keel Maxi Jena. It was built in 2001 but still one of the fastest 80 footers in Europe. His most famous work is the ISAF recognized RC44 high tech racer, designed with America’s Cup legend Russell Coutts.

Andrej Justin about CODE8 boats

When designing the CODE8, we thought of the sailors who know, quality and quantity are two different properties–basically, the one who wears an Omega Seamaster and not a regular digital clock.
We put all our knowledge into designing and building the uncompromising “Day Sailer Racer” specifically designed to compete with it on Europe’s lakes and coastal seas. The boat is primarily intended as a team boat for course and tour races, but it also has a chance to win in solo races, and the overall dimensions and lightweight is a guarantee for easy road transport, simple berthing and dry storage.
The chined hull with Bmax of 2.58m was designed according to the results of extensive CFD and VPP studies which is the best possible compromise between upwind and cruising performance. This powerful chine extends to the bow, dynamically minimizes the wetted surface, increases (due to better volume distribution) the boat stability, minimizes longitudinal trim, and keeps the foredeck drier in choppy waters. The 1.8m draft together with a high ballast to displacement ratio is the most optimal compromise for reaching and sailing upwind.

Furthermore, this draft makes the boat suitable for many lakes with shallower water. The state-of-the-art construction materials and production technologies are also in line with the design: the CNC machined plugs, the pre-preg carbon–sandwich construction, the optional water ballast system, and the high-quality deck hardware. This ship is just as I dreamed of it. And the design is also impeccable.
